Tamil Solidarity received support and solidarity from the National Education Union’s International Solidarity Network. The meeting agreed to affiliate with the campaign and to build support amongst the NEU trade union. To also circulate the motion to all the NEU branches.
The meeting brought together international officers and those involved in international solidarity in the NEU together. It discussed recent events in Cuba, Palestine and the development taking place in Sudan.
The main discussion at the meeting on the 10th of May was on Sri Lanka. The NEU expressed solidarity with the teachers union and the mass uprising against the corrupt government.
The Sri Lankan government is bringing in further legislation that is attacking basic rights including the right to protest, assemble and right to speech. NEU agreed to oppose the draconian pieces of legislation called the “Anti-Terrorism Bill”.
