Sri Lankan refugees to be resettled while more wait-BBC

The last of a group of 78 Sri Lankan asylum seekers involved in a stand-off on an Australian customs ship have now left Indonesia.

The refugees were intercepted in Indonesian waters last year as they tried to reach Australia.

They are now to be resettled in Australia and the Philippines.

The BBC’s Karishma Vaswani reports, from the capital Jakarta.

“But this will be the last time we are helping Australia deal with its foreign refugee influx problem,” Sujatmiko said adding that Indonesia did not incur any expenditures for the deportation since all the related costs were borne by the United Nations.
