Protest took place against the land grab and against the military occupation in the north took place on the 15th of August 2012 in Jaffna town. This protest was organised by Tamil national peoples front led by Gajrndrakumar Ponnambalam togeher with anti government political parties. Dhammika de Silva of the United Socialist Party, Suresh Premachandran of the TNA , PDF leader Mano Ganeshan and Mahendran of the NSSP took part in the campaign.
Up to 100 people also participated in the protest despite the intimidation and heavy military and police presence. There were numerous onlookers who are supportive of the protest, but unable to participate due to fear of attack by the state.
